Our Design to X methodology can address any key value and is most usually used for:
- Design to Cost reduces the cost of the system whilst maintaining its performances.
- Design to Weight streamlines the system whilst maintaining its performances.
- Design to Value maximises value perception.
Our methodology is a targeted blend of Agile System Engineering, creativity techniques and cost analysis methods, and has proven its capability to improve cost, weight and value without any adverse effects on the system’s performances.
During the roll-out of our provisions we interact closely with the multi-skilled teams of our clients to broaden the scope of each solution. We also target our management methods to the specific context of the client to reach the desired performance level while controlling both budget and lead time.
eXtreme System Needs Analysis
The expression of client needs is the basis of product or service engineering.
The XSA© method elicits and details the client’s fundamental needs and the associated requirements. This method leads to a consensus among all the stakeholders on the “values” of the system and provides a robust definition of the targets and performances required by the client, along with a formal expression of the system’s functional requirements.
eXtreme System Engineering
A system is always developed in accordance with a chain of key decisions which will structure its final design.
The XSE© innovative method details the sequence of all the decisions made all along the system design. Thanks to the analysis of the key decisions made during the design process and the underlying decision logic, we can reconsider and validate all these decisions and ultimately improve the new system.
eXtreme Functional Analysis
Functional analysis is a key stage in design – it is the analysis that enables to build the system architecture from the client’s needs.
With the aim of maximising the value of a system (in terms of performance enhancement and/or cost reduction), The XFA© structuring method formalises the internal and external functional analysis, targeting the resources and parameters that will improve the design.
Cost modelling is absolutely crucial as it helps determine the functions and resources that are more costly and therefore need to be reviewed.
Our Design to Cost approach includes 5 process accelerators: modelling, threshold effects, differential analysis, angle of attack detection, and "should cost".
By combining cost modelling with the results of the XFA, we drive the thought process safely towards the client’s objectives.
Using creativity to find innovative levers
Creativity is a genuine asset in the search for innovative solutions.
On the strength of our team’s longstanding experience in methodology, our coordinators facilitate the emergence of solutions, particularly in the search for optimisation levers and the exploitation of all opportunities: technological choices, product and process simplification, etc. These creativity sessions are multi-skills based, to extend and strengthen the scope of the solutions.
Exploring and developing levers through set based design
The levers are then explored and developed, and the final solutions constituting the new system are selected.
We offer day-to-day support to clients via structured review and orientation sessions based on Agile System Engineering. Our method reconciles the exploration of levers with solutions that are free of preconceptions or arbitrary decisions.
We provide support to step the stakeholders out of their comfort zone which is the key factor of this high-performing approach.
